ABOUT         EUNOIA PHOTOGRAPHY & KEVIN BOWIE

My attraction to photography began one autumn
while fishing for salmon on the Waimakariri river
of New Zealand.
The night gave way to dawn, this was a sign for the king of fish to run.
I intended to be one of the many challenges on their journey towards the mountain spawning streams.
Nature wove her magic that morning ensuring I was distracted long enough to allow my quarry their day in the mountains.
The distraction, the clouds to the east, were aflame with orange and yellow from a rising sun. While to the west a full moon bathed in blue, began to set under a cloudy arch created by a westerly wind.
The wind is affectionately called a "nor wester" and is known to alter the mood of some of us who live here.
For just a moment there was a sky of two halves, both in composition and colour, a sight I will never forget and
may never see again.

This defining moment inspired my love of photography.

I am drawn to the natural world and especially the New Zealand landscape. Its immense diversity, its desolation and abundance and the darkly beautiful weather that sometimes sweeps across it inspires me.
Through photography I try to convey the beauty and emotion within nature and the landscape and confront the challenges they present.
The consistent feature is detail of staggering complexity.
Whether seeking to creatively interpret a subject, capture fleeting moments or revealing the moods of the natural world and the
New Zealand landscape...I love it all.

This is my passion.

EUNOIA  –
This is a Greek word meaning "beautiful thinking".

I believe there is a thought process which precedes the visual process in creating an image.
Eunoia describes perfectly my approach to fine art photography. The concept is not merely to see an image, but to craft an image that reflects the creative process, emotional content
and visual design.
In a world of visual and emotional clutter, I want to take a simple but thought-provoking approach.
The process of creating my photographs challenges my thinking, my imagination and my emotions.
It is through photography I seek to create an emotional bond between the landscape, our natural world and our human souls.

"The landscape is the answer to our longing for home"  – Unknown

I want my images to be enjoyed by you, perhaps remind you of a time, a place, or a feeling of connection and bring into your life something beautiful and inspiring.
I want you to share EUNOIA... beautiful thinking

OBSERVATIONS

Photography is an excuse to loiter in beautiful places.

The walls of Canterbury do not speak to me like the mountains.

A wall without art, is like seeing yourself naked.

Nothing inspires me more than people who live their dreams.

It's not important where people come from, it's where they're going.
